Cultural Immersion (or Diverse Perspectives)
Wadaiko
Union’s world music ensembles bring diverse performance opportunities to our community and introduces students to other cultures by way of music, regardless of their prior musical experience. Here, Jennifer Matsue, professor of Music, East Asian Studies and Anthropology, leads the ensemble in a practice session in the World Music Room, part of Union’s beautiful Taylor Music Center (an all-Steinway facility). The taiko pictured shares a home with such instruments as the Balinese gamelan and the djembe, traditional West African drums.
